Public Discussion on the Modernization of Family Law

The lawyers of our office Maria Thrasyvoulou - Champoyri and Laura Pangou participated in the public debate organized by the Ministry of Justice and Public Order held at the conference room of the Audit Office in Nicosia on 2.11.2017.
Some of the proposals were indicative of the abolition of the conciliation procedure before the Bishop as a pre-requisite before marriage annulment, in cases of domestic violence, the establishment of a consensual divorce as a way to resolve the marriage, the reduction of the separation period as ground for divorce, from 4 years to 2 years, as well as changes in the composition and operation of the Family Court with a view to speeding up court proceedings and resolving disputes more effectively.
